Is Training & Development Same?

In order to ensure its competitive position in the market, a company must carry out training and developmental programs for their employees. Training and development is a very important part of an organization and has a vital role in human resource management. It is the best way to upgrade the skills of the employees as per the changing environment and according to the rising competition in the market. Training and development always give a higher quality output from the employees. Most of the companies consider training and development programs as a fundamental part of the human resource development (HRD) activity.

Most of the organizations consider training and development as one and the same thing. The truth is a bit different. Training and development are two different branches of the same tree. Training basically refers to the process of conferring job-related specific skills to the employees. The concern of training is to enhance the skills of an employee for a specific job and is provided time by time whenever the need of an upgradation is felt. It is mostly for the operatives. Whereas development refers to all those learning activities designed to help the employee grow. It does not only emphasize on developing the skills but all those attributes which will be helpful to the employees in their higher designations or in the near future. These are usually psychological oriented programs designed by the professionals in the job mainly for the managerial staff of the organization.

Previously, many of the organizations did not believe in training and development. They were of the view that the staff enters the organization with all the skills in their hands. They also believed that these programs involve much cost and are not worthy. However, according to the modern approach, the organizations feel like training and development are more of retention and thus invests more in it.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is the benefit or reward given to an employee or worker of a company. It is actually a monetary benefit which is given to the worker in response of his services or labor to the company. This compensation given to the employees is in the form of salary, wages or bonuses. This compensation motivates the employees, build their career, and makes sure that the employees are devoted in achieving the goals of the company or organization.

Compensation holds much importance both for the employer and the employee. It is important for the organization to contemplate its vision, its aims and strategies and then they design the compensation system in a way which links and aligns all these constituents. All this process of compensation is administered by the HR department of the organization. How necessary an experience or relieving letter should be for securing a new job?

The intent of issuing the experience or reliving letter is almost the same. A reliving letter is issued to the employee when he is leaving the organization. In simple words, a reliving letter is the documented proof that a person has fulfilled his responsibilities in a certain company, at a certain position, during the specific time period.

However, the issue is that most of the employees while leaving the company don’t even think about getting their experience or reliving letter. They are in such a hurry to get their dues cleared and join another organization that they don’t even ponder over the consequences they might encounter due to the absence of experience letter.

In India, relieving letter holds great significance as it is issued to the employees who serve the notice period. If by any chance, an employee ignores the significance of reliving letter by fleeing the notice period then he/she has to face severe complications in finding other jobs. Where ever you go, every company asks you for the documented proof of the duration you spent in your previous company. Without that proof, no company should consider the Candidate.

If you are an HR Manager, small business owner or a recruiting manager then:

What is your take on this issue? Will you seriously consider hiring a person in your organization who eloped the notice period in his/her previous organization?

What is the Process of Recruitment?

The recruitment process is a critical part of the human resource management. To recruit an employee a proper strategy is planned. Recruitment is basically the process of finding the most appropriate candidate from a pool of applicants. The selection of an applicant is most often considered one of a very vital function in an organization. The organization execute a proper staffing plan and decide how many employees that can recruit. This decision is made on various internal and external factors. The internal factors are annual budget of the organization, production levels, global expansion plans, while the external factors include changes in technology, changes in law, ratio of unemployment etc.

Though it might seem easy and not a tedious task, but recruitment of the right person, with right skills, for the right position takes a lot of practice, experience, talent and a perfect strategy. The first and obvious step in recruitment is the acknowledgement of a job vacancy in the organization. The human resource management then comes up with a job description for the vacancy. Looking up to the job description the HRM decides to first find an employee from the internal staff. If any person from the internal staff meets the requirement of the job, he/she is motivated to apply for the job. however, advertising the job openly for internal staff and outside member brings more diversity to the organization.

The next step is the receiving of applications, which must be handled with great respect and should be examined thoroughly. The manager of the selection committee analyses all the applications and then short-list the candidates which meet the selection criteria. The selection criteria include education, competence, experience, skills, personality. After shortlisting the candidates, interviews are conducted. Then the successful candidates are formally notified.

Almost all discussions today revolve around how to incorporate cognitive solutions, robots, and chat bots within departments in Human Resources. Talent Management: Strategies for Retention

Given the significance of talented employed in relation to meeting the needs of an organization and creating more innovation and productivity it is important that an organization hires and develops employees. As such a company’s HR strategies for retention need to be designed in such manner as to attract, develop, motivate and retain employed who are productive, motivated and engaged. Talent management refers to the expectation of the required human capital for an organization or business and the planning done to meet those needs. It means to manage the ability, competence and power of the employees of an organization. It can be affected but external factors and environment. As part of the human resource team it is critical that there is true commitment to recruiting, hiring, retaining and developing the talents employees (G.Collings & KamelMellahi, 2009).

For employees to remain in an organization factors which play a decisive role are job satisfaction, work-life balance and organizational commitment. Thus for turnover rate to be reduced or to increase retention of good employees, talent management strategies which focus on employee enrichment are needed to be employed (Deery, 2008). Given the context and role played by talent management, the emphasis upon it as a useful retention strategy stems from its effect on employee recruitment, retention and engagement. It is driven by the belief that an organization’s primary source of competitive advantage is its human resource and it is becoming a limited supply. The benefits which are experienced as a result of a successful TM strategy include improved recruitment and retention rates, increased employee engagement and as a result of these the organization experiences improved operational and financial performance (Hughes & Rog, 2008).

Paycheck or Passion: Which One You Need to Choose?

As per statistics, about 70 to 80% US workers are not happy with their jobs. The reason behind is that they are not able to have any control over their job conditions. They first joined jobs for few extrinsic reasons and then had a fear to make the transition. The ultimate result is that today they do not find any positive motivation for the work they are doing. People are getting paid, and even highly paid, so they are losing motivation to take a shift towards their dream career.

We belong to a generation where we have limited hours to enjoy as all of them are occupied with work. Most of us are going to spend whole life earning more and more but after retirement, a thought comes to every mind what if I would have chased my passion? May be I could have satisfaction along with money. And this thought makes everything look shady and colorless. There is no doubt that passion brings satisfaction to our life but only if you follow it in right way. Experts say that if you choose your dream career then also you can make huge income because it is something you would love to do by heart. And when we are involved in certain work with high motivation then it naturally provides great results.

But the common mistake we all do in our young days is that we choose a job by looking at its paychecks. And then we keep on running behind those paychecks the whole of the life instead of thinking about how satisfied we are with what we are doing.

1. Convert your passion into the rich source of income:
May be most of you may feel it impossible because the path of passion has so many difficulties. We pick our job by thinking about our financial needs and then the list of responsibilities goes on. But if you are determined by your passion then it can be converted into a highly paid profession. Today, technology has revolutionized and everyone can get an opportunity to prove his abilities. You can even work as a freelancer and get good payments for what you love to do.

2. It demands sacrifice:
If someone loves acting it doesn’t mean that he/she should directly go to Hollywood. Passion is not about rainbows and unicorns, it demands sacrifice. You need to work hard and make true efforts for practicing things to get perfection. It is important to focus on the development of skills in the right direction.

3.Life is too short to be boring:
We are not born to earn paychecks, pay the bill and then die. If we
keep on working just for money then life will soon become so draining and
tiring. However, the word‘passion’ these days is being misunderstood or over
used but remember that it is not irrelevant. You may take so many risks in
whole life achieve high paychecks as well as to build a life of passion but at
the end only one thing matters: how much happy and satisfied you are. And the
satisfaction only follows passion .
